Personal Consultations

The Writing Practice consultation series is for authors in arts and social science concentrations who are interested in enhancing their writing skills through ongoing sessions with a scholarly writing consultant. Prospective clients should ideally have a new or early-stage writing project in mind, and should be able to commit to regular weekly meetings for the duration of the writing project or for at least one academic semester.

The primary consultation focus will be on expanding your repertoire of productive techniques for generating and refining scholarly ideas, and on using the resulting idea structure as the basis for draft writing of journal articles, book manuscripts, or other scholarly submissions. As the goal is to enable you to develop ideas that are not only personally compelling but that also speak to particular professional audiences and contribute to ongoing scholarly discussions, consultations will also incorporate techniques to sound out the publication potential of ideas from the start. In addition to working directly on writing for publication, consultations may also be used for drafting or revising accompanying materials such as a cover letter, curriculum vita, text for a professional web page, a cover letter or letter of inquiry, or other professional written communication.

The entire series is structured to ensure that you make effective progress on your own project in the course of working with ideas, and does so through introducing you to innovative ways to foster idea creation and development that will be useful for all other writing projects to come. The purpose of the series is to allow you to enhance the process, product, and publication potential of your own writing.

Session content is geared to meet the needs of both native and non-native English speakers. Please note that I do not offer any stand-alone writing or editing services apart from the consultation series, and that all Writing Practice services are negotiated on the basis of in-person consultations.
