What I Charge

(With effect from January 2007)

I have devised a flexible fee schedule for personal consultations to take into account both the time and the nature of effort involved in working with you on your writing projects

Depending on the circumstances, an individual weekly writing consultation lasts from 1-2 hours. The basic charge for an hourly session is $75. If the session runs significantly over an hour I increase the amount, with the maximum set at $150 for a full 2-hour session. A writing consultation series may also be arranged for 2-3 people at reduced rates. Please contact me for more information.

While this cost covers basic preparation work I do outside of sessions, there are times when your project may require additional attention. Therefore, as necessary, I also ask that you pay me for certain kinds of occasional “value-added” work that I do on your project between consultation sessions. Some of the tasks I may do on your project outside of consultation sessions that represent value-added work include:

· reading for background information and contextual understanding of your project
· targeted searches for relevant examples and models for your project
· framing possible language in which to express key ideas (titles, headings, key points)
· generating additional ideas and idea sequences
· rearranging idea sequences or written drafts for coherence and argument
· reorganizing written drafts for readability and flow

I calculate these charges based on time invested (from ½ hour to 2 hours per block), and intensity of effort (light-moderate-intensive).Based on these two factors, the charge per block for any work I do on your project outside of consultations ranges from $30-50 at the low end, $60-80 in the middle, to $90-120 at the high end. I will do my best to notify you in advance when I anticipate the need for such additional work so that it can be carried out by mutual agreement.
